Materials and Construction

For applications requiring additional surface protection, AstraRoll offers chrome plating, rubber covering, urethane coating, and thermal spray coatings. Our material selection process considers factors such as load requirements, operating environment, and wear resistance needs.

Manufacturing Capabilities

AstraRoll's manufacturing facility is equipped with CNC lathes, cylindrical grinders, vertical mills, and dynamic balancing equipment. Our steel rollers are precision-machined and ground to achieve tolerances as tight as ±0.0002 inches. Diameters range from 8 inches to 37 inches, with face lengths up to 150 inches. For applications requiring heat treatment, AstraRoll offers carburizing, through-hardening, and induction hardening with case depths up to 3/8 inch per side and surface hardness to 65 HRC. Every roller undergoes dynamic balancing to ensure smooth operation at line speeds.

Quality Control and Inspection

AstraRoll maintains rigorous quality control throughout the manufacturing process. Each steel roller is inspected for dimensional accuracy using calibrated micrometers, Pi-tapes, and electronic run-out indicators. Hardness testing verifies case depth and surface properties. When specified, AstraRoll performs non-destructive testing including ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection. Surface finish is measured and documented to meet customer requirements. All inspection results are recorded and available upon request.
