New Stainless Steel Inflatable Air Shaft Details
Product Overview
AstraRoll’s New Stainless Steel Inflatable Air Shaft is built for reliable roll support and core gripping in winding, unwinding, slitting, rewinding, and other continuous web handling equipment. The shaft expands when supplied with compressed air, creating a secure connection with the inside of the roll core during operation. When the air is released, the expanding mechanism retracts to simplify roll removal and changeover.
The stainless steel construction makes this type of air shaft suitable for applications where durability, structural strength, and resistance to moisture or demanding production environments are important. It is well suited to machinery used for printing, packaging, coating, laminating, converting, paper, film, and other roll-to-roll processes.
Non-Standard Manufacturing for Different Equipment
Air shafts are not always interchangeable between machines. Shaft length, working width, support arrangement, core dimensions, installation space, and operating conditions can vary significantly from one application to another. AstraRoll therefore focuses on non-standard manufacturing, allowing the shaft to be configured around the customer’s actual equipment rather than forcing the machine to accommodate a fixed product.
The support seat, shaft dimensions, expanding structure, working length, total length, and other mechanical interfaces can be adjusted according to the application. Reference configurations can cover a stretch roll surface length of approximately 580–1800 mm, total lengths of around 730–1925 mm, and substrate widths from approximately 500–1600 mm, while other dimensions can be produced according to specific requirements.
Stable Core Engagement
The pneumatic expansion mechanism provides a practical way to secure the roll core during winding or unwinding. Once inflated, the expanding elements press against the inner surface of the core, helping maintain stable contact between the shaft and roll.
A properly matched air shaft can reduce core slippage and provide more consistent torque transmission, which is particularly important when processing continuous webs at production speed. Deflation releases the core for faster roll removal and easier changeover.
Stainless Steel Construction
Stainless steel provides a robust shaft structure for industrial applications where long-term mechanical performance and resistance to moisture or corrosive working conditions are important.
For equipment operating in demanding environments, material selection can be matched to the actual application rather than using the same construction for every project. AstraRoll can also adjust the shaft dimensions and mechanical configuration according to the required load, working width, installation arrangement, and machine design.
Applications
The New Stainless Steel Inflatable Air Shaft can be integrated into:
- Winding and unwinding machines
- Slitting and rewinding equipment
- Printing machinery
- Packaging and converting lines
- Coating and laminating equipment
- Paper and film processing machines
- Flexible packaging production
- Roll-to-roll material handling systems
- Other continuous web processing equipment
The shaft is particularly suitable for applications where reliable core engagement, convenient roll changeover, and a durable stainless steel construction are required.
Source Factory and Competitive Pricing
AstraRoll manufactures inflatable air shafts directly, providing customers with a source-factory solution instead of relying on multiple trading intermediaries. Direct manufacturing gives us greater control over dimensions, machining, assembly, and production consistency while helping keep the overall cost competitive.
From a replacement shaft for existing equipment to a customized shaft for new machinery, AstraRoll can support prototype development, small-batch requirements, and repeat production. Customers can provide the core dimensions, working width, machine interface, installation requirements, or technical drawings, and we can develop the shaft around the actual application.
