Product Overview:

When transporting heavy, large-lump materials like blasted rock, copper ore, or run-of-mine coal, rigid conveyor idler frames take a massive beating. The kinetic impact of falling boulders frequently bends steel frames and shatters idler bearings. Furthermore, uneven loading forces the belt to wander, while replacing a broken roller on a rigid frame requires lifting a heavy, tensioned belt and unbolting rusted components. AstraRoll completely solves these challenges with our Industrial Garland Idlers. Also known as catenary idlers, these are a flexible series of rollers linked together by heavy-duty hinges and suspended from the conveyor structure like a hammock. When struck by heavy material, the garland idler flexes downward, absorbing the impact energy and protecting both the belt and the bearings. Its natural suspended geometry automatically cradles the payload to center the belt perfectly. Delivering extreme shock absorption and lightning-fast maintenance, AstraRoll Garland Idlers are the ultimate solution for your most destructive conveyor zones.

The AstraRoll Technical Advantage

Engineering a suspended idler requires indestructible linkage components and advanced bearing protection:

Hammock-Style Impact Absorption: Unlike rigid frames that force the roller to absorb 100% of the shock, the flexible garland linkage allows the entire roller set to yield slightly upon impact. This drastically reduces the stress on the conveyor belt carcass and prevents bearing shatter under loading chutes.

Automatic Load Centering: Because the idler set hangs freely, it naturally adjusts its troughing profile based on the weight and position of the material. If the load shifts to one side, the garland assembly physically shifts to cradle the load, naturally steering the belt back to the center line.

Rapid Quick-Release Maintenance: Replacing a garland idler is incredibly fast. There are no rusted bolts to cut or heavy frames to disassemble. Maintenance teams simply unhook the end links from the conveyor stringer and drop a new garland assembly into place, reducing downtime from hours to minutes.

High-Tonnage Troughing Depth: Utilizing a 5-roll garland configuration allows for a much deeper, more rounded troughing angle than standard 3-roll rigid frames. This safely encapsulates high volumes of bulk material, preventing spillage over the belt edges on steep inclines.

Key Specifications

Please note: Every AstraRoll Garland Idler is custom-manufactured to match your specific belt width, load profile, and suspension brackets.

Belt Width Compatibility: 600mm up to 3,000mm+ (24" up to 120"+).
Roller Outer Diameter (O.D.): 89mm, 108mm, 133mm, 159mm, 194mm+.
Bearing Sizes: 6205, 6305, 6306, 6307, 6308 (Deep Groove Ball Bearings, C3 Clearance).
Linkage Break Strength: Custom drop-forged links rated for extreme tensile loads (up to 50+ kN).
Troughing Angles: Flexible, naturally adapting to 20°, 35°, 45°, or deeper depending on suspension mounting points.

Primary Applications

AstraRoll Garland Idlers are engineered for dynamic, heavy-duty bulk material handling environments:

  • Loading Zones & Transfer Points: Installed directly under crushers, hoppers, and transfer chutes where extreme lump sizes are dropped onto the belt.
  • Mobile & Shiftable Conveyors: Essential for crawler-mounted conveyors, stacker/reclaimers, and open-pit mining shiftable belts where the ground is uneven and rigid frames would cause severe misalignment.
  • Tunnel Boring Machines: Ideal for tunnel muck conveyors where space is limited and rapid installation/removal of idlers is critical.
  • Return Side Sticky Material: Using a 2-roll V-return garland allows sticky carryback (like wet clay) to drop off the belt more effectively than a single flat return idler.

Why Choose AstraRoll?

1. Drop-Forged Unbreakable Linkages

The weakest point of a cheap garland idler is the hinge or chain link connecting the rollers. If a link snaps, the entire assembly collapses, tearing the conveyor belt. AstraRoll does not use cheap stamped steel. We utilize heavy-duty, drop-forged alloy steel linkages and shackles that are pull-tested for extreme tensile strength, guaranteeing they will never separate under massive mining payloads.

2. Turnkey Suspension Bracket Engineering

If you are upgrading an existing rigid conveyor line to a suspended garland system, you will need somewhere to hang the rollers. AstraRoll can engineer and supply custom quick-release suspension brackets that weld or bolt directly to your existing conveyor stringers, ensuring a flawless and secure retrofit.
