Heavy-Duty Cast Iron Flanged Wheels for Industrial Track Systems

Product Overview:
In heavy industrial material handling—such as foundry transfer carts, high-heat curing ovens, and massive sliding gates—moving multi-ton loads efficiently requires fixed rail infrastructure. For these guided track systems, standard polyurethane or rubber wheels are useless; they melt under high temperatures and compress under extreme payloads. The AstraRoll Heavy-Duty Cast Iron Single Flanged Wheel provides the ultimate balance of massive load capacity and economic efficiency. Cast from premium-grade iron, these wheels possess immense compressive strength, easily supporting thousands of pounds per wheel without deforming. CNC-machined with a precise single flange and a smooth running tread, they ensure perfectly aligned, low-drag rolling on any standard steel rail or ASCE track. Highly resistant to high temperatures, caustic chemicals, and sharp factory debris, these cast iron wheels are the trusted workhorses for the world's most unforgiving rail environments.

Heavy-Duty Cast Iron Flanged Wheels for Industrial Track Systems Details
The AstraRoll Technical Advantage
We engineer our cast iron track wheels to deliver relentless, frictionless tracking while protecting your maintenance budget:
Massive Compressive Strength: Cast iron possesses incredible compressive load-bearing properties. A single 8-inch AstraRoll flanged wheel can effortlessly support static and dynamic loads exceeding 2,500 lbs, making it the industry standard for multi-ton factory carts.
Extreme High-Heat Immunity: Unlike plastics that melt or rubbers that burn, cast iron wheels maintain their structural integrity in extreme temperature environments. When equipped with plain bores or high-temp bronze bushings, they can operate continuously in curing ovens and kilns at temperatures up to 600°F (315°C).
Cost-Effective Heavy Mobility: While solid forged steel wheels offer higher impact resistance, they carry a massive price premium. For controlled, low-impact rail applications, premium gray cast iron provides nearly identical load capacities at a fraction of the cost, maximizing your return on investment.
Precision CNC-machined treads: We do not leave the running face as a rough casting. The tread and the inner face of the flange are CNC-machined to ensure a perfectly smooth, concentric roll, drastically reducing track wear and starting friction.

Why Choose AstraRoll?
1. Strategic Rail Matching & Tapering
A flat-tread flanged wheel on a curved track will grind aggressively, causing severe screeching and rapid wear. AstraRoll can engineer a precise 3-degree to 5-degree taper (crown) into the running tread of the cast iron wheel. This taper utilizes centrifugal force to naturally center the cart on the rails, virtually eliminating flange-to-rail friction and ensuring smooth cornering.
2. Ready-to-Install Track Casters
AstraRoll can mount these heavy-duty cast iron flanged wheels directly into our ¼-inch or ⅜-inch thick welded steel caster yokes. We provide complete, ready-to-bolt Swivel and Rigid Flanged Casters. This allows your fabrication team to instantly convert any standard platform truck into a rail-guided vehicle.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: If I have two parallel rails, should I use single flanged wheels on all four corners of the cart?
A: If your rails are laid with absolute, laser-perfect precision, yes. However, in most factories, rails slightly widen or narrow over long distances. The industry best practice is to put double-flanged wheels on one side of the cart (to guide the path) and Un-Flanged (flat-faced) wheels on the opposite side. If you only have single-flanged wheels, orient the flanges on the inside of both rails, allowing enough lateral play to prevent binding if the track gauge fluctuates.
Q: Do I need to lubricate the steel rail when using cast iron wheels?
A: Generally, no. Adding heavy grease to the top of the rail head can attract dirt and metal shavings, turning the grease into an abrasive grinding paste. However, applying a dry graphite lubricant or a very light machine oil to the inside edge of the rail head (where the flange rubs) can significantly reduce cornering screech and wear.
Q: Can I use cast-iron flanged wheels off the track, directly on my concrete floor?
A: No. Unlike V-Groove wheels, which have flat treads on both sides of the groove, a single flanged wheel has a protruding metal lip. If you roll it on a flat concrete floor, the entire weight of the cart will rest solely on the thin, sharp edge of the flange. This will instantly chip the cast iron flange and severely carve up your concrete floor.
